After lying in bed for 48 hours wondering if your life has meaning, you realize that your Book Club's recent choices had become too dark for words. The Club and you were in dire need of a Barbara Taylor Bradford romance but the overwhelming majority had demanded yet another Anna Quinlen's book. "A Thousand Acres" was slotted for the following week's discussion. It was obvious that Quinlen's novel about an incestuous rancher with three daughters was not a joy-filled Fa-la-la-la Lifetime fantasy so, without access to Prozac, you pinned your hopes on your home's whimsical decor, delicious food, and colorful, contemporary serving pieces like the Book Club Veggie Boat.

As its members shuffled into your living room, you quickly set the Book Club Veggie Boat filled with low-cal crudite and sugar-laden comfort food on your coffee table. As if by magic, the Veggie Boat's hyper-polished aluminum with its colorful enameled bowl magnified a beam of sunlight that lit up the room. With the additional food and friendship, the Book Club's mood shifted dramatically from black to a brilliant yellow, and the book discussion became an analysis of each girl's empowerment in the face of adversity and not, as you feared, about the dad.

Most importantly, like mom's brown and orange "open-a-new-checking-account-and-get -a-free" crock pot and Kiss the Chef apron, you and the sunshine-tastic Veggie Bowl presented the Book Club with a picture of domestic bliss that was so powerful that it was able to put to rest every member's fear that her choice to stall a professional career to raise children, join the PTA and relive the '50's had turned her ivy-league mind to mush.
